Champion of Wits – One Card a Day

Champion of Wits has a long list of pros and cons. I consider cutting it every now and then, but so far the pros have won.

Pros

  • It’s a mana sink
  • Enables the madness archetype
  • Somewhat of a payoff as well for madness
  • Small combos with instant speed and general buffs
  • Wizard that actually gets buffed by an Adaptive Automation
  • Token is a zombie
  • Nice and not overbearing blink target
  • Looting effects add agency
  • Dreamstealer in the core module and some other occasionals already use Eternalize

Cons

  • Big text box
  • Blue already has plenty of card selection
  • Eternalize is a non-resonant mechanic, lots of baggage in the reminder text
  • Confusing and non-resonant ability, need to read a couple of times to grasp
  • Nagas should be Snakes. Not really a con, but… urgh.

In summary, Champion of Wits is a great enabler that pivots between lots and lots of archetypes, but it might not be a good inclusion in the elegant cube because it offends the “elegance” and “resonance” criteria.
